Salento, Colombia, is a popular backpacking destination located about halfway between Medellin and Bogota in Colombia’s premier coffee region. Despite its popularity with tourists, its relative remoteness (the 8-hour bus journey from Medellin was not too pleasant) means it remains a fairly quiet place to hunker down and enjoy a few days hiking, drinking coffee and eating arepas. The best part of the town, though? Its colorful charm! See below for proof.
