Photo Gallery: Dogs of Latin America

We just spent two weeks in Tbilisi and Yerevan, which are full of friendly strays (vaccinated, sterilized and tagged by the government). Petting all those pups reminded us of the many dogs we met in Latin America, so to feed our nostalgia, we’re sharing some of our favorite furry friends from the beginning of our trip in a photo gallery. Enjoy!

This friendly pup was the perfect companion during our morning reading and drinking cafechata in Mexico City.

Above left: When we picked up our camping rig from Nomad America, they had plenty of dogs hanging out at their office. This one looked just like my grandmom’s dog!

Jonathan tried to coax this doggy into our car while driving through the mountains of Costa Rica. (Just kidding! He just gave him some pets.)

Finca Las Mercedes, the coffee farm where we stayed for a few days in Costa Rica, was definitely dog heaven! Several families live on the property, and canine pets were plentiful.

Jonathan’s best friend at Finca Las Mercedes was definitely Kaya, a lovable and pudgy black lab who accompanied us for long walks. (But not too long–then she would get tired and go home haha.)

This dog in Salento, Colombia, was comfortably lying right in the middle of a souvenir market. His strategic position rewarded him with many pets!

This little pup sat with us for an entire dinner in Salento, alternating between sweetly waiting for food (though we didn’t feed him any) and watching the street for other dogs.

The colorful buildings of Salento made a lovely backdrop for our furry friends!

This little guy adopted us on our hike in the Valle de Cocora outside Salento. He eventually abandoned us for another couple on the trail, but it was fun while it lasted!

Note: This post is in no way meant to encourage you to interact with stray animals on your travels. Only you can make decisions about your health and safety. If you choose to interact with animals on your travels, do so carefully. And of course, make sure you have travel insurance. 😉
